Womb of Becoming

WHAT IS THE WOMB OF BECOMING?

The Chora Story

Many years ago, I heard an ancient story about how the universe came into being. A smart-ass student Timeaus told his teacher Socrates a likely story—in 360 BC. He said that before the world came into being, there were three distinct realities: being, space, and becoming. The space was a container, a receptacle for fire and water, earth and air, and all odd elements. The space held wild unformed forces of nature as necessity—in constant motion, shaking, churning, swaying without any order so that anything was possible. This space was a womb of becoming.

I AM IN JOY

How the Crone birthed the Womb of Becoming

What do I do at this stage to continue weaving these threads? I am looking for the forms of organization that can lead to women’s liberation. In my small way in recent years, I have continued to create cultural counterspace—Womb of Becoming is a retreat space for gatherings focused on “Awakening to Patriarchy: Envisioning Women’s Liberation.” As part of this project, I began a series “My Mothers’ Stories”.

Maiden, Mother, Crone

Arranged to form the universe.

Tonight, we who have experienced and invested in the aches and pains of this Crones birth of

I am the midwife for SHE WHO IS—our universal blessed mother of the universe who

Holy Mary full of grace blessed is the fruit of thy womb, all the spirits of the universe.

SHE WHO IS abides in this space of grace.

Blessing the Womb of Becoming

SHE WHO IS, mother of the universe, who abides within us all—hold us together in this Womb of Becoming. May we feel your power which binds us in our collective unconscious. Let us hear the pain and the joy of women who have gathered before us. Together she who is I am we are in constant change continual transformation in this space of grace which holds us in our co-creation.

Together we experience deep gratitude and boundless joy for our constant regeneration. As she who is mother of the universe is a receptacle for the generation of all forms of life, as she is a space of generation that embraces all forces of nature as necessity in contradiction (earth, water, fire) tosses them, shakes them, embraces their wildness, tolerates their ambiguity, loves them in contradiction, so this Womb of Becoming holds all possibility. Free from the blinders of what has been and the dictates of what will be, the Womb of the universe generates possibility Chora. This ancient Chora, which holds the soul of the universe that generates life for maidens, mothers and Crones, here in this caldron creation to us appear all the energies of creation. Everyday, we welcome the Sun, every night the Moon, at all times the north, south, east, and west of the pacha mama

We honor the spirits to the first humans to occupy this land—gabreilla tongva. Califa. their spirits are present

So also we call forth the plant spirits who love and nurture and feed this womb—

And the sprites who reside here—bringing constant delight, mischief, play.

The angels who carry the grace

The fairies who bring joy

The plant spirits who sing

The elementals who surround our surrender.

SHE WHO IS hold me close, let me feel you, let me feel me. As winter ends,

Let us feel the sun’s warmth, the return of its bright light, illuminating our world even as the fog hangs

Let us light a fire in the hearth and light the fires inside our hearts.

SHE WHO IS, blessed mother of the universe, let us hold tight the power of our moon.

We are becoming—every present moment—life, fullness, birth in a space of grace.

What has been surrounds us, what will be is yet unknown.

In the juicy, messy, darkness of our collective unconscious stream—the universal womb,

Where the screams of the Sabine women echo forever along with the crackling fires of burning witches, the moans of African princesses shackled, enslaved,

In the womb of oneness simultaneously appear to us the brightest of lights—

The sparks that light the fires of revolution,

The cries of joy when the pain of labor—in one present moment—BECOMES

The wildest ecstasy of childbirth,

When over and over trillions of times our ancestors and our brothers and sisters across the globe have chosen and continue to choose LOVE NOT FEAR,

When we laugh with our families as have our mothers and grandmothers,

When we sing in organism—the cries of joy heard round the world!

When we together today release the chains of capitalist patriarchy, break out of our prisons of racism and xenophobia,

We step into our own present selves, knowing our power (its shadow and its light), hold each other—dare to struggle, dare to win!

Together, with all who have been before us, and those who will follow us,

SHE WHO IS, I WHO AM—WE WHO ARE

Bless this womb of becoming.
